Nondiscriminatory Policy

  • Scholarship recipients will be selected based on criteria reasonably related to the charitable goals of the Scholarship Fund.
  • All scholarships will be awarded objectively and without discrimination from the pool of eligible individuals who meet the established criteria. The selection committee will not consider a candidate’s personal relationships. Relatives of current or former directors and/or employees of the Foundation, as well as individuals designated as “disqualified persons,”  are ineligible to receive scholarship grants. Generally, neither employee nor their family members, donors, advisors, or  members of the Scholarship Committee are eligible for scholarship grants.

SOLICITATION OF APPLICANTS

  • Typically, applicants shall be solicited nationally.
  • Application forms are accessible to all registered members on  the NAAMA NextGen website

NOTIFICATION OF SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

  • The Scholarship Committee will issue a letter to each scholarship recipient, officially notifying them of the grant. It will specify that all awarded amounts must be exclusively used for tuition at undergraduate or medical schools.
  • Prospective recipients must be prepared to provide evidence of financial need; failure to do so may result in forfeiture of the scholarship.
  • Upon selection, the recipient must sign and return a copy of the letter to confirm acceptance of the scholarship
  • The funds are allocated for one semester only and are not renewable.

Why do I need to anonymize my submission?

To minimize potential biases during judging, we ask applicants to remove their names from all submitted documents.  

How do I anonymize my submission?

To anonymize your submission, replace your name with 5 underlines ‘ _____’ in both your essay and letter of recommendation.

What is expected for the Community Service Essay?

The community service essay is intended to help judges better understand applicants’ impact on the community and NAAMA NextGen. It has a maximum character count of 5,300 and must answer the essay prompt (approximately 1.5 pages of single-spaced 12 pt. font). We also ask to confirm your name is not included in the essay to ensure anonymity.

What is the Community Service essay Prompt?

Write an essay highlighting your experience with NAAMA NextGen and/or your community service efforts. You may wish to discuss the motivation behind your efforts and how they impacted the greater community. Please explain how these experiences relate to your personal and professional goals. (5300 character limit)

What is expected for the Letter of Recommendation?

The letter of recommendation should give judges a good view of an applicant’s personal qualities and strengths and include how the recommender knows the applicant. Potential recommenders include professors, bosses, club advisors, etc. The letter of recommendation may NOT come from a fellow student or someone related to the applicant.

How are award recipients selected? 

The committee shall review and shall have final approval authority. Every reviewer will score each section of an application based on a scoring system from 0 to 5, with 5 being the best. The mean of the final scores from the reviewers will be calculated for each application. The two best applicants in medicine and the two best applicants in undergrad will be awarded the scholarship. If a tie arises in the final mean scores, the decision will be made by majority vote.

What is expected of me if I choose to accept the award?

  • Providing documentation of fees paid by the student. 
  • Submitting  financial records to verify financial need.

I accidentally submitted the wrong document how do I fix it?

If you have submitted the wrong document or made any errors, simply refill the form and submit the correct documents. It will update all your information. You may resubmit up to 3 times

Help! I accidentally mistyped my name! 

If you have mistyped your name in your submission (shows up incorrectly in the submission conformation email) please email national@naamanextgen.org to get it fixed.
